Dusted Valley Vineyards
Dusted Valley was founded on the notion that when family works together the American Dream can turn into a living reality. In 2003, these Wisconsin natives took a leap of faith and started a new adventure in the Walla Walla Valley. Today, under the Dusted Valley and Boomtown labels, the family farms three estate vineyards and crafts honest wines with a sense of place. Castello di Amorosa
Castello di Amorosa is an authentically-styled 13th century Tuscan castle winery in Calistoga in the heart of Napa Valley. Castello di Amorosa produces a wide range of hand-created wines all sourced from top vineyard sites. Each vineyard offers a distinct expression of location, soil, and micro-climate. We tasted through the whole line, thankfully we had a team of helpers along for the ride. We tasted the Pinot Grigio, the Vermentino, the Gewürztraminer and the Pinot Bianco f

Lagrein
My friend asked me the other day about Lagrein. She had never heard of the varietal before, and was ordering a selection of various wines from a club. Lagrein is from northern Italy, most renown in Südtirol, it produces well rounded tannic red wine, balanced with adequate acidity. In Trentino, it is also produced as a stunning rosé with plenty of weight. Look for Lagrein Rosato or Lagrein Kretzer. The red wines are often oak aged for a relatively extended duration often 18 mo

Chardonnay
When I mention Chardonnay, I can see many people grimace, with thoughts of bobbing for peaches in a barrel of drawn butter. Chardonnay was often assembled to showcase that style, however it was never the only version around. Chardonnay is manipulated by a wine maker differently throughout the world, and is easily one of the most malleable, winemaker friendly varietals, and there is likely a style that you would enjoy. It may take a good deal of trial and error though, and I c

Cabernet Franc
People often ask me, “What is your favorite wine?” The question strikes me like “what is your favorite bodily organ?” I like each of them for the functions that they serve. I do have several that consistently rank near the top, one is Cabernet Franc. Cabernet Franc is a grape from the Loire Valley in France. The wines produced from Cabernet Franc are lovely, lighter bodied, and fruity, in comparison to Cabernet Sauvignon. I first fell in love with Cabernet Franc produced in B

Walla Walla, Washington
Walla Walla is located in the southeast portion of Washington state. This region is substantially drier than the coastal regions of Washington State. The Cascade Range and Olympic Range of mountains bottle up the rain on the west side of the state, and in Walla Walla the sunny days and relative warmer climate allows for the production of many more durable grape varietals. The growing season allows for plump, ripe grapes at harvest, and the arid climate creates opportunity for

North Coast, California

Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, Sonoma County Pinot Noir, and Lake County Merlot are favorites. We select a different producer for each week, and taste through the winemakers interpretation of many grape varieties. I have specific blogs for more information about Napa Valley, Sonoma County, and Lake county please read

Willamette Valley, Oregon
Willamette Valley is located on the west side of Oregon. Sandwiched between the Coast Range and Cascade Range Willamette tends to be a wetter region, and demands a selection of grapes that thrive in the climate. When sourcing for this region we will frequently use Pinot Gris, Pinot Noir, and cool dry Rieslings, occasionally we may source a unique style Syrah from Willamette, as well. I spent some time in and around Portland in May 2021, following the driest April ever recorde
